Metallic Bone Plate Testing

The compositional, physical performance and biocompatibility of acrylic bone cement includes the determination of the shear stress and compressive strength of the sample material. The Lloyd Instruments testing system is used to determine the compressive strength: the failure load divided by the calculated cross-sectional area of the sample. The load at 2% offset is the load at the intersection of the S/N curve and a straight line parallel to the Hookean portion of the curve, but offset along the strain axis by 2% of the test's gauge length (specimen's height). Yield point, ultimate load and upper yield point are determined. The Lloyd Instruments test system will display a load versus deformation curve with tabular results for the test material as well as reporting bending strength and equivalent bending stiffness. The system can generate the analysis report including offset, proof strength, mean, standard deviation of bending strength values, mean and standard deviation of the equivalent bending stiffness, etc.
