Compression Cages

Compression Cages
A complete range of purpose built compression cages is available to fit most Lloyd Instruments' single and twin column machines. Used to test large or awkwardly shaped samples, which do not fit within the standard working area of a test machine.
Compression cages are available in a range of dimensions and sizes depending on individual application and required specification.

Specifying a Compression Cage

All compression cages are custom built due to varying sample types and size. When specifying a compression cage the following factors should be specified:

• Machine model to be used with the compression cage
  
• Sample type and maximum sample dimensions
  
• Required internal cage dimensions
  
• Maximum load
  
• Stroke/vertical travel required
  
• Size and type of upper platen required (flat/round/dome)
  
• Choose from polycarbonate or open steel mesh screened sides/doors

Applications

Used for general purpose compression testing of large or awkwardly shaped materials, assemblies and products such as packing crates, large diameter pipes, mattresses, complete car seats etc

Circular, Direct Compression Platens
A set of circular, aluminium compression platens optionally available in three different diameters; 50 mm (1.97 in), 100 mm (3.93 in) and 150 mm (5.91 in). These platens are suitable for loads up to 20 kN (4496 lbf). Aluminium platens are for softer samples. Point loads must be avoided. Plated for corrosion resistance. Maximum sample diameters 50 mm (1.97 in), 100 mm (3.93 in) and 150 mm (5.91 in) respectively.

Circular, Direct Compression Platens
A set of circular, steel compression platens optionally available in three different diameters; 50 mm (1.97 in), 100 mm (3.93 in) and 150 mm (5.91 in). These platens are suitable for loads up to 100 kN (22481 lbf). Plated for corrosion resistance. Maximum sample diameters 50 mm (1.97 in), 100 mm (3.93 in) and 150 mm (5.91 in) respectively.
